2016

This installation serves as a response to the way language can exist explicitly and implicitly. Even though discriminatory and harmful words have always existed and been used, there was an increase of conversation about "political correctness" and discrimination/racism during the presidential campaign of 2016. This installation, of labelling words that exist seemingly innocently in the light, brings the audience face to face with the "insult" counterparts of these labels once the lights are turned off. Standing in the middle of this installation is meant to overwhelm the viewer with a sense of anxiety and discomfort, allowing the audience to understand the effect these words can have even if it is not apparent at first.
