Personal Emblem
digital drawing
2018
This symbol, which is a blend of indigenous Taino imagery from the Dominican Republic and Ancient Etruscan references from Rome, is a symbol I developed to represent my work and identity. It features Atabey, the Taino goddess of fertility and the earth, the Taino symbol of the sun and Etruscan concentric circles, olive leaves, and the colors on the Italian flag and the Dominican flag.
Based off of a sketchbook doodle and rendered digitally.

Pizzica & Palos
installation, book, performance
2018
In this multimedia piece I explored the folkloric dances of Italy and the Dominican Republic for an exhibition in Paris, France. Pizzica is a folk dance of Salento in the south of Italy and Palos is the folk dance of DR. The piece included a book detailing the history and significance of the traditions as well as my background and the reason for my research. In the gallery space, I presented a small installation featuring the instruments used in the traditions and the book. Finally, during the opening of my exhibit while studying abroad in Paris I presented a performance of both dances which began with an introduction of the traditions, a brief explanation of the instruments, and an invitation to the audience to participate by playing along with me while I danced.
